Figo and gang too strong for the Iranians

I thought Figo dived to earn that penalty which resulted in Portugal going two up against Iran. Anyway, Portugal controlled this match and deserved to win. Iran on the other hand
looked ill-prepared to play against European opponents.

Deco scored first for Portugal from a curling right-footed shot, straight into the corner of the net from 20 yards out, in the 63rd minute. Cristiano Ronaldo then doubled the lead by converting the penalty in the 78th minute.

This win, following the 1-0 defeat of Angola last week, guarantees a place for Portugal in the second stage – something which they have not done since 1966.

Iran however looks set to go home as soon as the final group game against Angola next week. Previously they were beaten 3-1 by Mexico.
